USA. Nevada. Las Vegas. 1997. A wedding with an Elvis impersonator at the Graceland Chapel.
The rituals of marriage are perhaps the only enduring traditions which are celebrated cross culturally in the USA. Every year approximately 2.4 million couples engage in a ceremony of marriage. Some elements of a wedding ceremony are universal including wedding vows and the exchange of rings. The types of weddings are as diverse as the American population itself, from Christian to Hindu ceremonies. While some weddings take years of planning other couples decide spontaneously to wed at City Hall. The most popular month amongst Americans is June. Ironically one in four marriages end in divorce.
