The police violently represses the crowd awaiting the liberation of Nelson Mandela, the anti-Apartheid leader who was sentenced to life in prison in 1964.
This is the last picture taken by the photographer for this story; he was wounded by buckshots fired by a policeman while he was taking the photograph.
