CANADA. Amundsen Gulf. International scientific expedition aboard the Canadian coast guard icebreaker AMUNDSEN. April 2008. The engine power of the boat is usually insufficient to progress when the ice thickness is more than 2 meters. When the boat is stuck in the Ice Floe, the crew has to cut a dotted line around it, with a motor saw so as to move on. This time it took almost 10 hours, and had to be repeated twice in three days. Since 1985, industrials have tried to create a special paint for the ship's body, which prevents it from freezing, improves it's penetration in ice, and reduces its energy consommation.
