IRAQ. Al-Basrah. 2004. An armed Shia militia of the al-Mahdi Army ( the Messiah) led by Moqtada al-SADR stands guard over the Central Sunni mosque where Friday prayers are being performed. For the first time Sunnis and Shias pray together to signify their opposition to the US presence in Iraq.
