SOUTHERN SUDAN. Juba. January 8, 2011.
Salva Kiir Mayardit president of GOSS (Government of southern Sudan) at a press conference at the Juba State Palace.
Juba is expected to become the capital of Southern Sudan if its people vote in favour of seceding from the North in the referendum that took place between January 9th-15th 2011. The referendum is one of the consequences of the 2005 Naivasha Agreement between the central government of Sudan in Khartoum and the Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M).
