Elliott Erwitt Retrospective in Budapest

June 15, 2017
by Elliott Erwitt
A career-spanning exhibition charts the work of Magnum photographer Elliot Erwitt

An exhibition presented in the Capa Center from June 15 will provide an insight into the over half a century long career of the world-renowned photographer. Erwitt’s images capturing shocking situations and ordinary moments alike receive their peculiar and unique characteristic from his often-sarcastic style. The photographer, who turns 89 years old this year, uses two main tools: humor and patience. The first he uses instinctively, while the latter is a conscious choice during the process of his photography. Besides the most famous images of the still active photographer, who joined Magnum in 1953 upon the invitation of Robert Capa, there are some lesser-known works in the exhibition material as well: from urban landscapes to beach photos, and from child portraits to the pictures of dogs.
Parallel to the Capa Center exhibition, a selection of Elliott Erwitt’s photographs taken in Hungary, but never before showcased here, will be presented in the Mai Manó House.
